February 7, 2015 – Ice fishing contest (Winter Carnival) – 63 kids participated, 20 fish caught.  10 northern (size 16 ¼” to 31 ¼”), 1 bass (11 1/8”), 5 bluegill (8 ½” to 9 ½”) and 4 crappie (12” to 13 ¼”).  Jerry Harvancik planned and chaired the event, with Cliff Schmidt, Jack Kuhr, Al Marchetti, Mike Jacquart and Gary Richards helping.

March 31, 2015 – Board meeting – DNR chemical treatment permits considerations, goose management program outline, lake management plan discussion, dam maintenance work estimated not to exceed $1,000 (pass information on to Village).

April 28, 2015 – Board meeting – public presentation by Mike Jones (USDA Wildlife Services) on goose control program.  Motion approved to spend up to $20 on egg oiling.  Motion approved to do the goose roundup, if the Village is willing to fund.  Motion approved to spend $6,925 for chemical control of CLP, EWM and algae.  Motion approved to set the annual meeting date, time, place and agenda.  Motion approved to propose a budget of $47,855.54.  Motion approved to propose a tax levy of$ 46,605.54.  Lyle Nauman nominated to three-year term (Gary Richards retiring).

April 29, 2015 – Iola-Scandinavia High School Honor Society service day – students spread gravel and top-soil along shore by dam

June 6, 2015 – Annual meeting led by acting Chairman Mike Devine – motion approved to set $47,855.54 budget for 2015/2016 - motion approved to set $46,605.54 tax levy for 2015 - motion approved to elect Lyle Nauman to the open three-year Commissioner position (Gary Richards retired from the board) – advisory motion approved to go ahead with the goose roundup; standing vote 25 for to 5 against – motion approved to extend the weed cutting contract with Clifford Schmidt through 2017

June 13, 2015 – Brat fry at Iola Sentry – Gary Richards, Jerry Harvancik and Jack Kuhr – net $183

June 18 - 30, 2015 – First weed harvest – 82 hours (charged for 80 hrs), 50 loads removed weighing 125 tons over about 40 acres, more weeds in lower end consisting of mostly whorl milfoil, no EWM seen, cut path up to Tresness Rd. bridge. 

June 19, 2015 – Chemical spraying completed for algae.  General opinion was that it seemed to work well.

June 26, 2015 – Removed 73 geese, 19 were adults.  It took about an hour.  Five members of the Lake District assisted the crew from the USDA Wildlife Services; final cost $2,445 to be paid by the Village.

June 30, 2015 – Board meeting – goose management summary; weed control discussions; long-term plan; lake level control; Bertelson, Devine and Harper reelected to their respective officer positions; initial fish survey results showed low number of small bluegills, apparently enough northern so no more stocking, bass will be stocked this fall; brat fry results from June 13; motion approved to donate $100 from the brat fry fund for the annual fireworks show; lake study discussion.

July 9 to 12, 2015 – Iola Old Car Show – volunteers contributed 188 hours for the Lake District, which raised $1,128 to offset taxes.  The amount was $1,653 in 2014.  The 2015-2016 budgeted amount expected was $1,200, so the total was $72 low.

July 28, 2015 – Board meeting – weed control discussions (algae more of a problem); lake study discussion; weed cutter discussion; Hamilton Harvey will be taking over Cliff’s chemical application business.

August 13 - 20, 2015 – Second weed harvest – 80 hours, 42 loads removed weighing 105 tons, harvested more outside of normal area to pick up algae (approved by DNR), only cut down about a foot in these areas and deeper in the normal areas.

August 15, 2015 – Brat fry at Iola Sentry – Mary Devine, Jerry Harvancik and Lyle Nauman – net $117

August 25, 2015 – Board meeting – A quorum of commissioners was not present, so not an official meeting.

September, 2015 – 5,511 largemouth bass fingerlings stocked.

September 19, 2015 – Brat fry at Iola Sentry – Dave Harper, Jack & Betty Kuhr – net $166.50

September 29, 2015 – Board meeting – received second Town of Iola tax payment of $742.58 and state aid check of $47; weed control discussions (suction harvesting); Tim Hoyman (Onterra) and Ted Johnson (DNR) present to discuss lake study (two year study cost $30,740, with anticipated final cash cost to the district of $7,564.20), motion approved 5-0 to initiate the study; board meetings schedule for 2016 presented.

October 19, 2015 – Iola-Scandinavia High School Honor Society service day – students cleaned up village dam area.

October 26, 2015 – Repairs to the village dam spillway by Brian Waters.

November 17, 2015 - $8,880.54 paid to village (2nd installment of 3-yr lake drain project loan; was due December 10th)

November 18, 2015 – Goose meat picked up from Waupun, then delivered to Waupaca and Iola (Our Savior’s Church) food pantries.  Of the 18 pounds from Lake Iola, 9 went to each pantry.  We also received 42 pounds from Sturgeon Bay, which all went to the Waupaca pantry.  Of all lakes in the program, the meat from the Iola Lake geese was the only one to have no restrictions on use.  It tested to be very “clean”.

December 5, 2015 – The Lake District float was once again part of the Iola Lioness Christmas Parade in order to promote the ice fishing contest for kids – Thanks go out to Mary Devine, Sandy Bostwick and Jerry Harvancik for handing out the candy.
